Community Work Service

There are two kinds of community work service volunteers: students and court-ordered

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS: Students may be asked to complete community work service hours for school or another educational program. Habitat's youth policies and procedures apply.

  • You must print and sign the Youth Waiver of Liability.

  •   All volunteers must be covered by a health insurance policy and be able to show proof if requested.

  • Transportation to or from the build sites is not provided.

  • Wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting dirty or paint splattered, and closed-toe shoes (work boots or tennis shoes). Sandals are not allowed.

  • The tasks that you will perform will vary from day to day and may include general construction tasks (framing, siding, drywall, painting, picking up trash, digging). Habitat will assign you to the task where you are most needed.

Court-Ordered CWS Program: This is a court ordered program. You must have a referral or paperwork from the court system that you have been charged.

** For court ordered or recommended community service we reserve the right to decline having you participate based on the specific charges**

Before you begin, contact Abrielle Willis at awillis@habitatsusq.org or call 410-638-4434 ext. 6 to schedule a meeting time to register for our program. Please bring proof of health insurance, court paperwork and ID to the meeting.

  • We do not provide transportation to or from the work sites
  • You MUST have health insurance, independent or through the court system
  • Sites are open most Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7:30 - 3:30. Community service workers are expected to work an entire day under most circumstances.
  • Have the Habitat representative at the site sign the form each time you work.
  • When you are finished earning your hours, return the time sheet to the Volunteer Coordinator at the Habitat office. It is your responsibility to ensure that your hours are recorded.

  • Wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting dirty or paint splattered, and closed toed shoes (work boots or tennis shoes). Sandals are not allowed.

  • The tasks that you will perform will vary from day to day and may include general construction tasks (framing, siding, drywall, painting, picking up trash, digging). Habitat will assign you to the task where you are most needed.

**After your community service is over, if you would like to continue to volunteer with Habitat please let us know!**
