Community Work Service

There are two kinds of community work service volunteers: students and court-ordered

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS: Students may be asked to complete community work service hours for school or another educational program. Habitat's youth policies and procedures apply.

  • You must print and sign the Youth Waiver of Liability,  take the Safety Training Course and create a volunteer profile.

  •   All volunteers must be covered by a health insurance policy and be able to show proof if requested.

  • Transportation to or from the build sites is not provided.

  • All parents/guardians must check with a house leader before leaving a minor at a build site.

  • Wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting dirty or paint splattered, and closed-toe shoes (work boots or tennis shoes). Sandals are not allowed.

  • In order to complete your hours you must plan your time well in advance. Habitat assumes no responsibility for providing work for you to do on the dates and times you want to do it.

  • Hours are accumulated for time served and so hours are deducted for the lunch break.

  • The tasks that you will perform will vary from day to day and may include general construction tasks (framing, siding, drywall, painting, picking up trash, digging). Habitat will assign you to the task where you are most needed.

  • Please be prepared for the possibility that we may not need your services if the weather is inclement. We also don't work on major holidays.

Court-Ordered CWS Program: This is a court ordered program. You must have a referral or paperwork from the court system that you have been charged.

** For court ordered or recommended community service we reserve the right to decline having you participate based on the specific charges**

Before you begin, contact Abrielle Willis at awillis@habitatsusq.org or call 410-638-4434 ext. 6 to schedule a meeting time to register for our program. Please bring proof of health insurance, court paperwork and ID to the meeting.

  • We do not provide transportation to or from the work sites
  • You must have health insurance, independent or through the court system
  • Please be prepared for the possibility that we may not need your services if the weather is inclement. We also don't work on major holidays.
  • Sites are open most Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7:45 - 3:30. Community service workers are expected to work an entire day under most circumstances.
  • When you arrive, identify yourself to the Habitat representative as someone performing community service. Have the Habitat representative at the site sign the form each time you work.
  • Each week, return the time sheet to the Volunteer Coordinator at the Habitat office. It is your responsibility to ensure that your hours are recorded and return your sheets.
